Shortly after his victory in the UK General Election, the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom honoured a longstanding commitment to take part in a Question Time panel at Dorset Humanists in Bournemouth. The panel featured a broad spectrum of political views from left to right to green and there were questions on whether Keir Starmer's new Labour government will be able to fix ‘broken Britain’, on the housing crisis, and on the forthcoming US electoral contest between Donald Trump and (at the time of the event) Joe Biden. Sir Keir stood throughout and there were some complaints about his ‘wooden’ performance.
Some members of Dorset Humanists, including Vice-Chair Lyn Glass, queued up as if to ‘kiss’ the new premier, unless she was whispering some advice into his ear? She remarked afterwards that he seemed a little stiff and unresponsive.
Downing Street has not issued any official comment, except to say that Sir Keir, an atheist himself, enjoyed his visit to Bournemouth.
