Aaron suggests ways you could write for Humanistically Speaking
Humanistically Speaking prides itself on being a platform for independent grassroots humanist journalism. We are writers, editors, web designers, and, above all, humanists – united in our shared commitment to speak out and make a difference.
Humanist topics are universal, transcending borders and cultures. Some issues of the magazine are UK-centric, but in July we had contributions from much further afield, including the US, Canada, Zimbabwe and the Middle East. Our goal is to engage with subjects that resonate with a wide audience, encouraging everyone to ask “why” in any situation and to champion democracy, fairness, equality and understanding. We strive to inspire thought, curiosity, joy, and happiness, while fostering a deep appreciation for diversity in a world where this is increasingly challenging. We believe in a world where people live free from fear, harm, or oppression. Do you have a different perspective on the issues we cover? Why not share it with us? Subject to editorial review, we will happily publish it. Agree with us? We’d love to hear that, too.
We’re particularly interested in publishing more stories about humanist groups and societies, both around the UK and across the world. So this special appeal is addressed to group members. Think you’ve got nothing of interest to write about? Imagine a humanist who has no connection with a humanist group. They might be very interested to hear about your latest humanist event. How was the guest speaker? Were they entertaining and informative? What stood out for you? Were you left thinking about the talk or presentation on your way home? Did it raise further questions down the pub, at the doctors, or at school? Should another humanist group book them for a talk? You could share your thoughts about the event – what went well and what could be done better next time.
And Humanistically Speaking would like to hear what it’s like to be a member of your group. What are your socials like? Is there a topic of conversation you keep returning to that you think we should explore as a theme? Does your group do anything that other groups don’t do? There are so many things a humanist group anywhere in the world could share with us. Again, subject to editorial review, we will happily publish it.
