On 10th December, the Dorset Humanists 'Hawkridge Singers' sang seven festive-themed secular songs at an event in Bournemouth to help raise funds for a local foodbank. The singing group, named after a former member who left money in her Will to enable them to buy an electronic piano, was originally formed in 2018. Their first concert took place at the end of that year at Bournemouth Natural Science Society and it took the form of a secular alternative to traditional 'nine lessons and carols' services. The following year, their festive performance coincided with the 2019 election and torrential rain - both of which had an unfortunate effect on attendance. The Covid pandemic then interrupted rehearsals and performances throughout 2020 and 2021. But now they are back and hoping to stage some more mini-concerts in 2023. The group is amateur and entirely voluntary. No auditions required - just enthusiasm! The event raised £313 which was added to Dorset Humanists' 2022 Appeal for a local foodbank.
