Begging Hymn

I beg for mercy, Lord most just,
For all the wrong that I have wrought;
For all my pride, for all my lust,
For all my sin, for all my thought.
I beg thee, Lord, bind these my hands;
I cannot tie them for myself.
Release me, Lord, from shifting sands;
Find me a rock next to thyself.
I beg thee grow in me thy grace.
Take from me all the world hast giv’n.
Blind these my eyes; still this my voice;
Blunt this my will, so pleasure riv’n.
I beg thee, Lord, look down from heav’n
Prove your heav’nly heart’s not stone.
I ache to know I’ve been forgiv’n.
I cannot purge my sin alone.
I beg thee, Lord, inflict much pain;
Bestow yet more should I persist
In straying from thy path again.
I beg one sign that you exist.
